These are dangers. Today we learn four words.
“Danger,” “dangerous,” “dangerously,” and “endanger.”
Each word shares the idea of possible harm. Each does a different job.
Parents and children can learn these words together. They help with staying safe.
What Does “Same Word, Different Forms” Mean?
One idea takes different shapes. The idea here is risk of injury or loss.
“Danger” is a noun. “The cliff presents a danger to hikers.” Risk.
“Dangerous” is an adjective. “A wild animal can be dangerous.” Describes.
“Dangerously” is an adverb. “He drove dangerously on the icy road.” Describes a verb.
“Endanger” is a verb. “Pollution can endanger wildlife.” Action.

We add “en-” as a prefix to make a verb. “Endanger” means to put in danger.

Number 8 starts with a capital letter because it is on a warning sign.
Number 4 and 7 use “endanger” as a verb meaning to put at risk.
Tips for Parents – Help Your Child Learn Word Families in a Fun Way
Point out dangers. “That loose step is a danger. Let us fix it.”
Describe dangerous things. “A fire is dangerous. Stay away.”
Use “dangerously” for actions. “He ran dangerously close to the street.”
Explain endanger. “If we pollute, we endanger animals.”
Play a game. You name an action. Your child says “safe” or “dangerous.”
